Torture chamber found in mosque

Now don't go getting all excited. Doesn't your local church have a torture chamber? What's that? It doesn't? Well, okay, but there must be at least a room in the basement where they rough up heretics? No? But...but...well, at very least Father McGillicuddy has a pair of thumbscrews -- doesn't he? He doesn't? Well, then, uh, remember the Inquisition! And the Crusades!

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- "There are the bloodstains on the wall, and here it is dried on the floor," says Abu Muhanad as he walks through a torture chamber in a Baghdad mosque where more than two dozen bodies have been found.
"And here, a woman's shoes. She was a victim of the militia. We found her corpse in the grave."
Chunks of hair waft lazily across the floor in the hot Baghdad breeze.
"This was the torture room," says Muhanad, the leader of a U.S.-backed armed group that now controls the mosque.
"This is what they used for hanging," he says, pointing to a cord dangling from the ceiling. "Here is a chain we found tied to an old man's body."
The horrific scene at this southwestern Baghdad mosque is what officials say was the work of a Shia militia known as the Mehdi Army. Residents who live near the mosque say they could hear the victims' screams.
The militia had been in control of the mosque, called Adib al-Jumaili, for at least a year and a half....

A minister passing through his church
In the middle of the day,
Decided to pause by the altar
And see who had come to pray.

Just then the back door opened,

The old man said, he worked down the road.

Because the factory is so far away;
As I kneel here talking to the Lord,

The minister feeling foolish,
Told Jim, that was fine...

He hurried to the door.

The minister knelt at the altar,
He'd never done it before.

His cold heart melted, warmed with love,
And met with Jesus there.
As the tears flowed, in his heart,
He repeated old Jim's prayer:

Past noon one day, the minister noticed
That old Jim hadn't come.
As more days passed without Jim,
He began to worry some...

At the factory, he asked about him,
Learning he was ill.

The hospital staff was worried,
But he'd given them a thrill.

The week that Jim was with them,
Brought changes in the ward.
His smiles, a joy contagious.
Changed people, were his reward.

The head nurse couldn't understand
Why Jim was so glad,
When no flowers, calls or cards came,
Not a visitor he had.

The minister stayed by his bed,
He voiced the nurse's concern:
No friends came to show they cared..
He had nowhere to turn.

Looking surprised, old Jim spoke
Up and with a winsome smile;
'the nurse is wrong, she couldn't know,
That he's in here all the while
Everyday at noon He's here,
A dear friend of mine, you see,
He sits right down, takes my hand,
Leans over and says to me:

Here SHE is, the USS New York, made from the World Trade Center !

It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center ..

It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions
that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite , LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept 9, 2003, 'those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,' recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. 'It was a spiritual moment for everybody there.'

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the 'hair on my neck stood up.' 'It had a big meaning to it for all of us,' he said. 'They knocked us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back.'

The ship's motto? 'Never Forget'

Meaning of Flag Draped Coffin

All Americans should be given this lesson. Those who think that America is an arrogant nation should really reconsider that thought. Our founding fathers used GOD's word and teachings to establish our Great Nation and I think it's high time Americans get re-educated about this Nation's history. Pass it along and be proud of the country we live in and even more proud of those who serve to protect our 'GOD GIVEN' rights and freedoms.

I hope you take the time to read this .... To understand what the flag draped coffin really means ... Here is how to understand the flag that laid upon it and is surrendered to so many widows and widowers.

Do you know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776?

Have you ever noticed the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the United States of America Flag 13 times? You probably thought it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies, but we learn something new every day!

The 1st fold of the flag is a symbol of life

The 2nd fold is a symbol of the belief in eternal life.

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing the ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of the country to attain peace throughout the world.

The 4th fold represents the weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance.

The 5th fold is a tribute to the country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, 'Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong.'

The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of their country since they were first born.

The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the Christians eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are ! uppermos t reminding them of their nations motto, 'In God We Trust.'

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for them the rights, privileges and freedoms they enjoy today.

There are some traditions and ways of doing things that have deep meaning. In the future, you'll see flags folded and now you will know why.

Share this with the children you love and all others who love what is referred to, the symbol of 'Liberty and Freedom.'

MAYBE THE SUPREME COURT SHOULD READ THIS EXPLANATION BEFORE THEY RENDER THEIR DECISION ON THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

The Silent Treatment
A man and his wife were having some problems at home

CHOCOLATE SINGS

One day I had a date for lunch with friends. Mae, a little old
"blue hair" about 80 years old, came along with them---all in all, a
pleasant bunch. When the menus were presented, we ordered salads,
sandwiches, and soups, except for Mae who said, "Ice Cream, please. Two
scoops, chocolate."

          I wasn't sure my ears heard right, and the others were aghast.

          "Along with heated apple pie," Mae added, completely unabashed.

          We tried to act quite nonchalant, as if people did this all the
time.
          But when our orders were brought out, I didn't enjoy mine.
          I couldn't take my eyes off Mae as her pie a-la-mode went down.
          The other ladies showed dismay. They ate their lunches silently
and frowned.

          The next time I went out to eat, I called and invited Mae.
          I lunched on white meat tuna. She ordered a parfait.
          I smiled. She asked if she amused me.
          I answered, "Yes, you do, but also you confuse me.
          How come you order rich desserts, while I feel I must be sensible?

          She laughed and said, with wanton mirth, "I'm tasting all that's
Possible.
          I try to eat the food I need, and do the things I should.
          But life's so short, my friend, I hate missing out on something
good.
          This year I realized how old I was. (She grinned) I haven't been
this old before."
          "So, before I die, I've got to try those things that for years I
had ignored.
          I haven't smelled all the flowers yet. There are too many books I
haven't read. There's more fudge sundaes to wolf down and kites to be flown
overhead.
          There are many malls I haven't shopped. I've not laughed at all
the jokes.
        I've missed a lot of Broadway hits and potato chips and cokes.
          I want to wade again in water and feel ocean spray on my face.
          I want to sit in a country church once more and thank God for His
grace.
          I want peanut butter every day spread on my morning toast.
          I want un-timed long distance calls to the folks I love the most.
          I haven't cried at all the movies yet, or walked in the morning
rain.
          I need to feel wind in my hair. I want to fall in love again.

          So, if I choose to have dessert, instead of having dinner,
then should I die before nightfall, I'd say I died a winner,
because I missed out on nothing. I filled my heart's desire.
          I had that final chocolate mousse before my life expired."

          With that, I called the waitress over.. "I've changed my mind," I
said. "I want what she is having, only add some more whipped cream!"

Miner's electrocution death under investigation

CARLSBAD — Federal and state mine safety officials and the Eddy County Sheriff's Department are investigating the death of an Intrepid Potash employee who was electrocuted Wednesday while working his evening shift.
Eddy County Sheriff's Deputy Lt. Jeff Zuniga said the body of Jeffery Franklin, 38, was found about 8 p.m. on the surface at the company's east mine located 32 miles east of Carlsbad.
Company officials said Franklin was a surface shift supervisor and had worked for the company for 15 years. He was performing a routine inspection when the accident occurred.
"Jeff was a valued employee," said Len Kaskiw, Intrepid general manager. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time."
Steve McCutcheon, Intrepid's manager of administration, said Franklin was well-liked by his co-workers and he will be greatly missed
Kaskiw said the New Mexico State Mine and the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration inspectors arrived Thursday to conduct an investigation.
Zuniga

said the preliminary investigation showed that Franklin was working above ground around a conduit that had some electrical heating tape on it that may have come lose.
"It is suspected there was a break in the tape and he may have inadvertently touched the exposed wire and was electrocuted," Zuniga said. "All we know at this point is they were trying contact him on the radio. When he didn't respond, they sent someone to locate him," he said. Zuniga said Franklin's body has been sent to Albuquerque for autopsy.

CARLSBAD - Funeral services for Jeffery Franklin will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at a location yet to be determined, with the Rev. Jimmy Ryan of Loving Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at West Funeral Home.
Franklin, 38, of Old Cavern Highway, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008.
West Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jeffery passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008 at Carlsbad Medical Center. West Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Jeffery Randall Franklin was born Sept. 20, 1969 in McNary, Ariz. to J. W. and Anita Kay (Willis) Franklin. Jeff spent his early years in Arizona and moved to Carlsbad from Douglas, Ariz. in the late 1980s. He began his affiliation and employment with the potash industry in early 1991, and had 17 very prosperous years. What began with small tasks, culminated as one of Intrepid Potash's cherished production supervisors. Jeff always enjoyed doing things that presented him with a challenge. Whether it be riding Bulls in rodeos as a younger man, manipulating his 4-wheeler over and around various obstacles, hunting, fishing or just gardening, Jeff seemed to be in his appointed element, especially when it involved his sons. Jeff was a member of the National Rifle Association and various Hunting Clubs. He was Baptist by faith, and attended the Loving Baptist Church. Jeffery is survived by his wife Anna of the family home; sons Ty Bailey Franklin and Bradyn Cody Franklin of the family home; parents J. W. and Anita Franklin of Hereford, Ariz.; grandparents Rex and Glenace Collier of Arizona; brothers Jon Franklin and wife Susan of Carlsbad, Jay Wayne Franklin and wife Marie and Jared Franklin and wife Leslie of Hereford, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Nat Huerta, Armondo Reyes, Jaime Elizondo, John Westfall, Ryan Nesbit and Carlos Salinas. Honorary pallbearers are J. W.
